Romanian Lawnmower Part II

O.k. as some of you know this "mowing of the lawn" is not for aesthetics. Pavel has both alfalfa and grass which he uses for feed. He tries to harvest 2-3 crops a summer.
(We have seen a few people mow the grass in front of their gates with a scythe. We have also seen cows, horses, and older ladies with scissors doing the job.) Pavel gives Ron a lesson in using the scythe. There are advantages to sharing the job.

After the crop is down it is turned at least twice to dry before stacking. Heather takes a break from turning to comfort Joshua.

When communism fell the land was given back to the people in long narrow strips. Ron, Pavel and his dad work to dry the crop.

Pavel's Mom and Dad collect some of the crop to store at their house. It is stacked around a stick, and ends up in a conical shape.

By the way, Murphy's Law exists in Romania, too. We haven't had rain for many days, but it came the day we were ready to stack the hay. It wasn't enough rain to water things well, but it was enough to have to start the drying process over!
