Bread of Life

We're in Romania to share the Bread of Life, but we need regular bread, too. Much of our time focuses on planting, cultivating, harvesting, and preparing food.

In Bircii many people fix most of their food from scratch. While there are two small stores in the village, or a more typical grocery store about 30 min. away, it isn't practical to buy the majority of our food.

In the above picture Pavel is roasting egg plant. Heather and a friend visiting from the States are finishing work on huckleberry jam. (The berries were bought about 8 hours west of Bircii.)

Our house came with about an acre of land. About 1/6 of that is loaded with an overgrown grape and wild black berry patch. Here Mikayla is picking some of the bounty.

There seem to be more plums in this area than people. Our property has about 4 varieties. While most of the folks here use the plums for making plum wine (about 90% proof), Anna is picking them to eat.

This picture shows a recent meal. It includes cooked carrot/garlic salad, fresh homemade bread, zucchini donuts, cabbage with sausage, and fresh tomato/garlic sauce. We had no complaints!

A typical Romanian breakfast includes cold (rather fatty) sausage, tomatoes and peppers, bread, and a type of farmer's cheese. All of this is served with hot tea.

While the Bread of Life nourishes our souls, we're thankful for this bread, too.
