Keep the Home Fires Burning

This winter, just like most of the other folks in this village, we will heat with wood. Often people gather their wood from a local forest, but since that is government land, it is illegal. One other source of wood is the gypsies.

A friend from church was hauling wood this year for his boss, so we were able to split a load of wood with Heather and Pavel. This load was harvested about an hour from here. It was driven to the village at night to avoid the police. Our friend was doing nothing illegal, but the police may have found a way to fine him if he did not offer a bribe.

The cost for our half of the wood, which we hope will last 2 years, was $900.
Most of it looked pretty good, but Pavel was disappointed in the amount of punky pieces. Next year he plans to be around when the wood is put onto the truck.

Getting the wood into our driveway was a smooth maneuver.

The unloading at our place went much faster than at H. and P.'s!

Of course, the work isn't done yet. Anyone who wants to cut and stack is more than welcome to stop in.
