Fifteen!

A fifteenth birthday comes around only once, and the whole household was excited to celebrate with Anna.A typical birthday celebration in Romania might not include pizza and brownies, but we succumbed willingly to Anna's request.

While in the States a party is thrown for the celebrant, in Romania it's the other way around. If it is your birthday you throw the party. You invite all your family and friends and provide a big meal. The parties we've been to have had barbecued mici (sausage) and chicken, and mamaliga (corn meal mush). Ohhh, and don't forget the cake.

You still get presents in Romania. Here Luke and the gang are singing to Anna before she opens her gift.

On Saturday after youth group the youth sang to Anna, too. (Romanians have multiple birthday songs which they sing while standing to honor the celebrant.) Anna brought chocolate chip cookies and pop. To celebrate their days other youth have brought great pastries, and one girl brought an entire meal!

David and Luke were still excited long after the party was over.
